How Hanna developed The Reading Fix Program

The Reading Fix Program was born from the pandemic when most on-campus learning was forced to go online.

Younger learners found it very difficult to remain engaged in online learning. As a lower elementary teacher and reading specialist, Hanna found herself reimagining and iterating her daily phonics lessons. She found that bite-sized, 10 minute pre-recorded lessons were the most effective. In a time of trail and error, she and her colleagues were elated to find a learning format that worked. But it didn’t just work— students and parents both loved it.

Why It’s Loved

  • Lessons were praised for being short, fun, and digestible.

  • Videos could be watched at any time of day that worked for the family schedule, which was a huge win for the juggling parent.

  • A multisensory approach encouraged diverse learners to participate. One parent commented: “It’s almost like my child is teleported into the classroom, and Hanna is are sitting next to them.”

  • Attaching a corresponding activity allowed students to apply their newly learned skills and to check for understanding.

As the option to return to in-person learning emerged, the request for Hanna’s video lessons surprisingly continued to grow. With now over 200 reading, spelling and phonics lessons, we are excited to share this with the wider learning community. We hope you enjoy!
